What is a refugee?
A refugee is someone who has fled his or her own country because of a well-founded fear persecution for reasons of political opinion, race, religion, nationality or membership in a particular social group. The term “refugee” is granted legal status.

What is an asylee?
An asylee is someone already present in the United States who, like a refugee, fears persecution of his/her country of origin and requests permission to stay.

Do they have permission to work in the United States?
Both refugees and asylees are legally authorized to work and have documentation necessary to complete the I-9 form.

What is a Career Laddering Program?  
It is a program designed to assist foreign professionals with eligible status and a verifiable educational background obtain a professional job based on their experience and knowledge.  The assistance includes referral to conversational English courses, translation and certification of educational documents and training for recertification.
